Our Beach Vacation by Scarlett

While picking the photos that I wanted to share from our weekend at the beach, Scarlett had comments.

So I've decided to make this an interview.

I'll be typing phonetically in Scarlett speak so I'll translate if necessary.

"I'm Scarlett. I eatin' a bee-do! I in my seat in my Mommies ban!"

(She's 100% unaware of the awesome hickey-stache she created for herself.)

"That's Sampson! Sampson's cute! It's Lily! It's Lily Lily Lily Lily! It's Addi-doo!"

"I'm Scarlett in there! I going out, we're going to the out in the lighthouse!"

"It's Lily, I'm Scarlett! She's drinkin' her juice."

"It's Papa! and Anna! It's Gummy! It's Gummy and Papa! They're taking pictures!"

(No Anna present this weekend.)

"That's Addison. She's getting on the couch."

"I'm Scarlett, she's just gonna carry me, pick me up! And Sampson's coming!"

"This is Kenny."

(I have no clue who Kenny is.)

"Found my Dad!"

"We're in a car. I'm in my car! I wanted to get in my car. Yeah."

(Scarlett place her tush in every single race car game they had. Twice.)

"I'm Scarlett. Lily's being a big mess with her ice cream. I got ice creams there! I got ice creams there! I got ice creams there!"

"Uh, I'm Scarlett in here! Daddies up there. Him's going up on the stairs. He throwing that down."

"I eating my ice cream!"

"I doing that! I doing this!"

(insert demonstration)

"Walking with Gummy. She's going taking me. I'm in my jammies. Away from me. Oh! I've got an idea!!!"

(Scarlett has decided to tell the rest of this story from underneath my desk.)

(No wait... she's back.)

"I'm spinning around on my horse! That's a big horse."

"Ummmmmm... is.... Scarlett's on my sea horse. Lily's on her horse. Lily on horse. Aaaaaah aaaaaaah uhhhhh!"

(That last part is her breaking into part of your world from The Little Mermaid.)

"I eating my breakfast. I eating pancakes."

(Lily set the whole table as a surprise to me that morning. So stinking sweet and deserves to be mentioned!)

"Mmmmm. Yum. I am Scarlett in my ship! Flag!"

(She got a hold of the bag of gummies I've been bribing her to talk with.)

*inaudible gummy chewing*

"It's Dad! It's Daddy and Me! Mmmm! These are yummy!"

"I'm Scarlett! Ida goin up on the stairs right there."

*Even more inaudible gummy chewing.*

"That's Daddy and Lily. That's my Daddy Dad Dad!"

"Where ah na na. With a car. Mmmm."

"I in there! Being a statue doobie doobie."

"We are going to the sea. We're late! We're on island!"

"I lub deez gummie bears! Yummy! Here you go Mom! Dey all gone."

I hope you read all of those in little girl squeaky voice.

I feel this best sums up our beach trip in a way I could have never explained.

She's so poetic sometimes.

She Lubs It!

I spent the afternoon yesterday painting up Scarlett's room!

Her 3rd birthday is in April and I really want to have it done before then. Especially since Addison has requested an entirely different color scheme and set up for HER room for a birthday present in May. I made the mistake of taking her to the children's section in IKEA and it's all I've heard about ever since.

Her room is in fact fully painted though and Scarlett's was not, so her room is getting done first!

Just have to finish up the edging and second coat today, complete the trim tomorrow, and then get everything hung back up and new curtains to help block out that morning light that wakes her up at the crack of dawn.

My arms hurt already, but it's pink and green and she LUBS it!

Are The Hairy Feet Next?

I think I'm raising a hobbit.

This is her 2nd breakfast today.

So far she's eaten 6 large strawberries, a cup of cheerios, 2 cups of milk, one fried egg, and a little cutie orange.

Now I just wait to see if she asks for elevensies.

Or she could just be having a growth spurt.

You say tomato I say... tomato.

Wow that doesn't translate in writing.

Mistakes

When I went to pick Lily up from school yesterday, she left the building chewing her nails and glaring at the world.  I knew something was up the second I saw her face.  I'm usually greeted by a running leaping hug and an onslaught of facts about her day at school. So I asked her what was up.

"Nothing."

So I let it be for a minute and tried to ask her how her day had been, how her Frozen practice with Janiyah had gone (they've been learning the choreography to "Let It Go" for weeks now!), and what she had for lunch.  She stayed tellingly quiet.

So before we hopped in the van with her sisters we took a seat on the bumper and I reminded her that she could tell me anything she wanted and I would try to help her work through her feelings.

So after a long pause, the flood gates opened.

She'd found a treat at school and assumed that it would be OK to eat it without asking if anyone had lost it.  When her friend had noticed that her treat was gone, and saw the wrapper sitting on Lily's desk at the end of the day, she had called her a thief and told the teacher that Lily had stolen from her.  It was the end of the day, so she was told that she would be talked to about it in the morning, and she didn't have the chance to speak with her friend either.

I had a hurt little girl on my hands.  She says she didn't mean to steal, and I believe her.  Her feelings had been hurt by her friend who called her a mean name, and she knew she couldn't tell her side of the story until the next day.

She wanted to try to convince me that she hadn't stolen her friends lunch treat for the day, and I had to break the news to her that she had.  Even if she hadn't done it on purpose or to be mean she had taken a friends belonging without permission.  To help her understand I reminded her about the purse she had left out at recess a few months prior.  She had been careless with it and the belongings inside and someone else picked it up and took it home, not because they wanted to hurt Lily and take her possessions, but because they didn't report it to lost and found or give it to an adult like they have been taught to do.

At this point she told me that she knew when she found it that she should have given it to her teacher, but that it looked really yummy and she chose to keep it instead.  She told me she felt bad for hurting her friend, but she didn't think about her feelings until after it was gone and then she didn't know how to fix it.

We talked about the best ways to apologize.  That when you say sorry, it shouldn't be filled with reasons for why you didn't mean to do what you did, but rather taking responsibility for your actions, and asking for forgiveness because (whether you meant to or not!) feelings were hurt.

We talked about making up for the lost treat, because in this situation she can.  Sometimes you can't replace the object or fix the hurt because of a choice that you make, but when you can you absolutely should.

We talked about how this was a mistake today, and that making mistakes does NOT make you a bad person, but if tomorrow she does the same thing, it is no longer a mistake but a choice to disobey the rules.

This morning she made a beautiful card for her friend.  The words were so sweet, true, and straight from her heart.  She is such a giving little girl and it was hard to see her have to work through the fact that she'd hurt a friends feelings and taken from her.

She gave her friend the card this morning with 2 treats to replace the 1 she'd taken and told me before heading in that she was really happy that she could try to make up for it.

"I'm going to say sorry, and I hope that she forgives me.  I understand if she doesn't right away though, sometimes it's hard to forgive, and I really want her to mean it when she does."

This little lady is always surprising me.

We couldn't be more proud of her.

Mouth Treasures

Lily walked out of school today with the BIGGEST grin on her face!

She lost a tooth before lunch today and the school gave her this adorable little pink treasure chest to keep it safe in!

Hopefully this time she doesn't try to keep the tooth AND catch the fairy.

Little turkey hid her last lost tooth!

She is one of the cutest turkey's I've ever seen though.

Home Stuff {Part 1}

You know who's been super awful about keeping track of our home improvement adventures?

This lady!

My goal is to be better about that over these next 85 years of home projects.

So we have a daylight basement that we never go into because it's not finished.

Well, we are signed up to host Christmas this year and figured we should probably use all that stuff we got to fix it up.

Two before and afters!

It's not much, but it's a good start!

Paul's Dad will be helping us hang the drop ceilings that the previous owners left in our "kill room".

The kill room will have it's own separate post.

Sorry it's taken 5 months to post ANY photos at all.

I just can't help that I'd much rather spend time looking at goobers like this on my computer!

So freaking adorable.
